Thai student hangs herself over problem with tuition fees

Some tragic news a few days ago was about a Grade 12 student that hanged herself as her father didn’t have enough money to pay the 2,900 Baht ($92) school fees. It has since been revealed that he has nine children in total (she was the 6th) and that due to an illness, he is not able to do any fulltime work. As a consequence he was finding it difficulty in paying the bills.

If you find this story sad and you want to make a difference to the life of a Thai student, then consider donating to a charity such as the SET Foundation. The following information comes from their webstite:

The SET Foundation has a very specific aim: to make a positive difference. That difference is between a youngster being able to study at a vocational college or university, or instead having to labor in the rice paddies, on a Bangkok building site, or in some other mundane, dead-end job. By giving scholarships and other practical support, SET is making the difference for an increasing number of disadvantaged Thai students. We’ve been doing it since 1994. We do it voluntarily, enthusiastically and very cost-effectively.

More than 4,000 students have already benefited from our Scholarship Program. Thousands more have benefited from our Student Welfare Program, receiving cash grants to pay for uniform, books, tools, bus fares, lunch or dormitory accommodation. It costs very little to make a difference but there are thousands of youngsters in Thailand who are prevented from achieving anything worthwhile at all, simply because of their impoverished backgrounds. Without SET support, many of them face bleak futures.

By supporting SET, you can make a positive and immediate difference to the lives of some of these deserving young men and women.

school is like business center. This family is poor but was still asked to pay tuition fee. Nowaday, government offer many type of education loan. School should provide and give those information to student who need financial fund.
