Thai Cookery book “Cooking with Poo” wins award for oddest book title

A cookery book from Thailand called “Cooking with Poo” has just been awarded the “oddest book title of the year” by The Bookseller magazine. According to an article in The Guardian, the 114-page cookbook derives its title from author Saiyuud Diwong’s nickname, Poo, which is Thai for crab. However, strictly speaking, her nickname is pronounced with a hard “bp” sound and so is closer to “Boo” when spoken by a Thai person. But, this fact doesn’t deter foreigners from snickering every time they hear the name of this book. Saiyuud Diwong lives in Bangkok’s Klong Toey slum, where she runs a community cookery school.
